Under the Boughs with Christine Bechtel: Democratizing Health Data

Too often, consumers face barriers to accessing their own health information. Liberating that data, while understanding individuals’ rights to under HIPAA, improves the health care experience for doctors and patients alike.

On April 26, the Cambia Grove, host Lee Huntsman and series partner UW BioEngage are pleased to welcome Christine Bechtel, President and Chief Strategist of X4 Health, to discuss consumer demand for health data.

This event will discuss questions such as:

• How do we “unleash” consumer demand for health data?

• Where are we in the process to redesign the HIPPA medical records request process?

• How can we each support the momentum toward routinely providing patients with access to their own health data?

Christine will also share highlights from the groundbreaking GetMyHealthData campaign, which encouraged patients across the country to utilize their HIPAA rights to demand their health records in electronic formats.

About Christine Bechtel:

Christine Bechtel is a long-time consumer advocate and the President of X4 Health, a purpose-driven organization working to accelerate the quadruple aim in health care – better health, better care, lower costs, and better experiences for patients, clinicians and staff.

Christine has spent much of her career shaping health policy at the national level in issue areas like health IT, patient and family-centered care, patient engagement, and quality measurement. She also co-founded the groundbreaking GetMyHealthData campaign, an initiative that documented what happened when consumers across the country used their HIPAA rights to demand their health records in electronic formats.

She was appointed by the GAO to serve as a consumer representative on the federal Health IT Policy Committee for six years, where she worked to ensure that today’s EHRs give patients the ability to view, download and transmit their own health information.
